memories

Gordon MacQuaker wasn’t a relative by blood, but He was a huge part of my family.

I met him when I was in third grade. He was an older gentleman who had a dream for my entire class- He wanted to see us graduate from college and succeed in life.

Mr. MacQuaker presented us kids with the “I Have a Dream” foundation. If we chose to be a part of this dream, we would be given money for a college education. My parents opted for this opportunity- and eventually my mother became the director of the foundation. Because of Mr and Mrs. MacQuaker, almost 100 of us kids were given the opportunity of a lifetime… a chance at a future.

I owe so much to this man… he taught us about serving our community, about manners and basic life skills, about the power of family and love… He gave us opportunities that we would have never had- trips to disney and seaworld, a tour of state colleges, all kinds of dinners and events…

Thank you, Lord… for bringing this man into my life.
