A Light in the darkness
Posted by Gina under poetry
Under the moonlit sky and twinkling stars
A city gleams from its unnatural light,
Of changing stoplights and stores shining white,
Of electrified homes and speeding cars.
So many people have yet to see Mars:
It is hard to see through the pollution bright,
It is intense enough to blind one’s sight,
As people stumble out of late night bars.
Under a lamp a shivering child stands,
The light’s not enough to lessen the cold,
In the dim glow she stands warming her hands,
Wishing on a star for someone to hold,
Her innocence taken by other plans,
As a car swerves into the child and pole.
